I hope you have a good time with family and friends this Memorial Day weekend. Grandma called it Decoration Day and my wife remembers going to the cemetery with her parents on this day to place flowers on the graves of both soldiers and other relatives who had not served.
It's easy to forget that just about everything we see in this world was worked on by many who have gone before us. And protected by those who served in the armed forces. I sit here typing and looking out at a field that was cleared sometime in the century before last by a man (with no doubt some help from his wife) who dreamed of a farm and probably lived to see it produce the fruits of his labor. I'll try to think of that family a few times today while I also remember those who went off to war and never came back.
