Are you ready, Westmo?NOAA hurricane forecast alarmingBy Oren Dorell, USA TODAY WASHINGTON — The hurricane forecast this year is the most ominous the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has ever issued — "an active to extremely active" season: • 14 to 23 storms big enough to be named. • Eight to 14 hurricanes — storms with winds of 74 mph or greater. • Three to seven major hurricanes — those with winds exceeding 111 mph. That is the most named storms NOAA has forecast since it began issuing the outlook in 1998. Only 2005 had more actual named storms: 28, including 15 hurricanes. One of them was Katrina. WEATHER: Fierce hurricane season predicted NOAA predicted more storms than actually occurred only once, in 2006. "We could be facing one of the more active seasons on record," NOAA Administrator Jane Lubchenko said at a news conference. Hey, Westmo guy, this is Fiona and I'm not ready either. I was only in one major storm - in February of 1993 - when I lived in Daytona Beach Shores. A twister came up across the Halifax River and onto the peninsula, where I lived, on a tiny strip of land bewteen the river and the ocean. That was enuf for me. I

I can remember driving through the midwest this time of year and tornado warnings were up in the way of our path of travel. One of us had heard that tornadoes caused a rush or whir of static on an AM radio, so we kept the car radio on. Can you guess how many twisters we heard? At least ten, and no, we didn't see any. I still don't know if the radio thing is true. But it makes sense.
