According to Wiki the musical was composed in 1980. Hugo's novel dates from 1862, so there is certainly time for earlier composition to have been done. I think our trip to NY was in late 1993.

There was a jazz album done in '58, I think I read, using Les Mis as the title and relating to a movie version of the story the same year. I read it last night and forgot most of the detail.

And I absolutely love this video! Apropos of nothing, "She F**king Hates Me!"

I'm fairly sure I posted this in a thread somewhere, but I still like it.

Speaking of the genius .....
This is absolutely wonderful. I found it next to the Variations.
The Love Trio. It even sounded terrific on my netbook.

That looks like a geat concert!
If I follow this trail of links to the end I won't get anything done today or maybe this weekend.

The first blonde woman in the second video (Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered) is literally built for music. The size of her is ample to begin with, the size of her mouth is such that she must go through 3 tubes of lipstick daily! All that on top of a terrific singer's chest. I wonder if she really needs the mic!

Feels like Sunday night, so a BONUS Sunday night. A little Diana Krall would be good. This one sports a guitar and bass solo as well as excellent keyboard work.

It's a beautiful sunny morning (so far) and I've always liked this song. I wonder what ever happened to Cat Stevens? Watching the video, I wonder if it's possible his pianist's head of hair reached critical mass and obliterated the entire band! LATER: Oh, OK. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat_Stevens#2006:_An_Other_Cup

It must be time for some Los Lobos! Here's an oldie they did for for the Richie Valens movie. At least they're given as much coverage in the video as the actors.
David Hidalgo, who sings the lead, is quite an accomplished musician.
Here they are a bit older in Chicago in 2007.

And for historical purposes, here they are in 1984. It strikes me as having taken a tremendous amount of discipline to NOT change a note of the song or arrangement in over 20 years (except for improvements in the solos), but IMHO such has often been the death of bands.

Not fair, Dave. Providing so much listening material on a morning I've got 2 granddaughters to help with morning chores. Right now the baby has had her bottle & is taking a mini-nap. My assistant day care provider is having her mid-morning fruit & muffin (it's amazing how much fuel it takes to power small bodies). Here is the Cat Stevens website, it looks like there is a bit to explore. catstevens.com/

Sorry, but I'm in a musical mood. Don't worry, you'll catch up. More on the way.

Lyle Lovett
I've been listening to this guy for a number of years and have seen him in concert. The Large Band is definitely the performance of choice when spending money on concert tickets. It's seems an impossible task to categorize his music. He just sits down there in Texas and keeps pumping out one kind of music or another. Hit tunes, movie scores, he's done them all.

The Kirby Stone FourRemember these guys from the 1960's? In the early part of the decade you could still get a song on the hit parade without playing a guitar with no shirt on under the influence of drugs! I always like this, too.
