Speaking of books on aircraft and flight, I read "Air Power: The Men, Machines, and Ideas That Revolutionized War, from Kitty Hawk to Iraq," by Stephen Budiansky a couple of years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Everything you always wanted to know about nations' use of aircraft for offensive and defensive reasons. Actually, there's a lot of 'everything you THOUGHT you knew" that Budiansky debunks. The man is excellent thorough researcher as well as a very readable writer.
His book on ciphers and the the Enigma Machine of WWII is also quite interesting and well done. I'm halfway through it. There's a lot of books I've liked that I'm halfway through, come to think of it.
