I didn't realize Ambrose died (8 years ago) until I came across his quote I pasted on our flag yesterday. Goes to show you I'm losing it.
I believe the first book of his I read (and thoroughly enjoyed) was Undaunted Courage, about the Lewis and Clark expedition. I had read on that topic over the years and in particular was interested in Sacajawea, whose life and fortunes were quite intriguing. If my memory isn't mixed up, there was a book called Sacajawea in the 1970's in which each chapter was headed by a paragraph or two quoted from the Clark Journal (or was it Lewis' journal?)
I didn't read Band of Brothers, but saw the mini-series, which I thought was terrific. A neighbor loaned me the DVD set, which I accepted reluctantly with thanks, though I thought I'd never watch it. One week soon after I was laid low with the flu and put the first DVD in the player and didn't do much else for 2 or 3 days except watch the series. Great actors, well written, very good interviews of those men who were still alive, etc.
I WILL get to "The Wild Blue: The Men and Boys who Flew the B-24s over Germany."
Has anyone read "This Vast Land"? Is it any good?

Raft of the Medusa - I've finally got it.
Sorry, nothing to do with Stephen Ambrose - but it's been more than 40 years since I studied that one & the name was buried deep in soime dusty file cabinet of the mind.
I can't help you on This Vast Land.

Yes, Gericault, 1818. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Raft_of_the_MedusaThere have been a few spoof renditions and a few more updated to one artistic technique or another. I saw, but did not download (dammit), one where the castaways are about to get run down by an ocean liner. If you come across that one, please save me a copy. Thanks.

Some of the neighbors got together for our annual Summer Art Reenactment and tried their best. I'm not in the shot.

The neighbors want to do this one next year and have asked me if I'd like to participate and if I have a bright white pajama top.

I don't know ... maybe we should try something simpler first. Mrs. Dave said to count her out. But I hope she lets me be neighborly and participate.
