I will find out where they lived and when the next time I go to the library by looking in the old city directories. A family named Green lived in no 1 for almost 60 years. The last surviving member of the family died there around 1950. He was born there and died there. He was an old man when he died. That house then went to Grace Church and then to the Dowling's. Could it be that your grandmother worked for any family that lived there? Memory is a tricky thing. A trial balloon, really.

Well, I remember (and my brother concurs) she worked for the Kernans. I remember her mentioning them often. I suppose it's possible she worked for a Kernan woman who had a different married name.
