Here's a Global Shield liftoff, a practice run for potential Soviet attack. Evidently these are no longer staged, now that the Cold War is supposedly over. Video shot at the former Griffis Air Base in Rome, NY, probably sometime in the '90's.

The laying down of smoke is evidently purposeful, and notice the slow gain in height. Hey Dick, is that so they remain in the smoke?
