The Photochrom process

Those colorized post cards of long gone scenes were not necessarily done by hand. The technique called Photochrom was often used. Wiki carries a good article about the process here:

This is a view of Syracuse from University Hill to the west of downtown. (Notice all the red brick downtown.)
